"They make a difference in the lives of others because they, themselves, experienced a significant change in their lives." Hands On Manila volunteer sherpas are committed men and women who have been the driving force behind many of the foundation's successes throughout the years. Sherpa is a Nepali term for local people employed as guides for mountaineering expeditions in the Himalayas. In Hands On Manila, the term sherpa was adopted to refer to volunteer leaders who guide and manage other volunteers on-the-ground for every HOM volunteer activity. Volunteer sherpas serve as the extensions or limbs of the HOM office staff. They are assigned to a particular volunteer program and they supervise anywhere between 10 to 30 volunteers at one time.
