Ms. Gey Atencio

Our volunteer of the month, Ms. Gey Atencio, started volunteering with Hands On Manila in May of 2008. She is the volunteer sherpa for the project Smashing Kids, which allows her to interact with children while teaching them how to play badminton. Gey was inspired by a lot of people who caringly contribute to their community and thought of doing volunteer work to be able to give back to society even in a small way.

Gey believes that the most rewarding part about being a Hands On Manila volunteer is witnessing the children’s growth, being treated by them as an older sibling or ate, and learning from them, simply by spending time with them. Gey also derives joy in seeing and experiencing children’s laughter. Through her volunteer work, Gey hopes to inspire kids who will be the next leaders of the nation.
