1. Why should I volunteer?
Testimonials gathered from volunteers attest that volunteerism has been a source of great joy and fulfillment. It is a catalyst for positive changes in communities. As the tag line, ‘Be the Change. Volunteer.’ succinctly delivers – volunteerism can result to a lot of individual learning that can contribute to the community change process. It generates civic pride and can unleash powerful civic change. 2. Who is qualified to become a volunteer?Anyone can become a volunteer. You and your family, friends and officemates can join HOM. With HOM’s diverse partner organizations and service projects, there are definitely on-going projects where your skills, interests, and personalities will fit. 3. How do I join Hands On Manila?As a Volunteer: As a Partner Organization: Once an agreement on a service project has been reached, it will be included in the monthly calendar. Realizing that many organizations require volunteers, Hands On Manila likewise offers its service to groups by including their call for volunteers. This applies to groups and organizations where volunteer needs are recognized and needed but service projects do not yet fit into the categories set by Hands On Manila. 4. What are the Volunteer Opportunities if I join HOM?Individual - Volunteers can choose from various service projects of HOM-from joining calendar projects to being a citizen on call during disaster response activities. Family Friendly – service projects designed to encourage families to volunteer together. A family friendly project serves to strengthen ties between family members and provides opportunities to meet other families in service projects. Team Works – is a group volunteer service opportunity designed over a specific period. Volunteers undertake a specific service and ensure its completion. A closing activity will take place thereafter. Team Works is more than a group volunteers service project, it is also a creative approach to teambuilding. Corporate Partners Program (Business Shares) – offers corporations the opportunity to experience customized, hands-on community service projects any day of the year. These service projects are tailored to the needs and interests of the company volunteer group and are conveniently scheduled at a time and location of choice. Business Shares offers a valuable opportunity for company employees to give back to the community while building teamwork and increasing the visibility of the company’s social responsibility and philanthropic activities. 5. When are orientations held?HOM hold one or two orientations per month except on the last two months of the year. We also hold special orientations for groups of 10 people and above or corporate invitations. 6. Where are orientations held?Orientations are held at PowerBooks chain of stores in Greenbelt 4, SM MegaMall Bldg A. 7. Do I have to attend all orientations?No. You only have to attend one orientation. 8. Do I need to bring anything to the orientation?We do charge a membership fee of P125. This covers the cost of producing the newsletter, volunteer passport and other necessary expenses of orientation. 9. Can I attend HOM projects without attending an orientation?No. You must first attend an orientation to be able to sign up on HOM projects. 10. Why do I need to attend an orientation?It prepares you on what to expect during your volunteer activity. It is also an avenue for you to inquire and clarify things you want to ask. It is also part of the fun of volunteering because you will meet other like-minded people with the heart for volunteerism. |
